Expert shares five top hair care tips for healthy, summer-ready hair

As the weather gets warmer, it’s important to have a good hair care routine in place, however, knowing what to do and what not to do can be tricky. Our hair goes through a lot of hardship throughout the year, and that’s why it is important to take care of how strands to avoid split-end, dry or dull texture hair.

For those who are looking to transform their dry strands into silky and soft ones, Dove Expert, Kirti Sharma has shared her top five tips on how you can avoid and repair damaged hair, just in time for the warm weather ahead.

1. Beware of heat

Style your hair naturally! We all love a blowout look, whether that would be bouncy curls or a sleek clean look. But using heat appliances to achieve these looks daily can lead to dryness and breakage as it changes the structure of the proteins in our hair.

When possible, let your hair air dry after washing it and try styling your hair without heat. This can be by using a styling serum or cream. On the days you need to apply heat to get the look you want, make sure you turn down the heating setting and apply a heat protector to prevent hair damage.

2. Establish a wash routine

Finding a routine that works for your hair will be a trial-and-error process. If you suffer from damaged and dry hair, make sure to select a shampoo and a conditioner that is formulated to help reduce the damage and protect your hair.

The Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner is the perfect addition to your shower rack as it is created with smart target damage repair technology that precisely repairs recurring daily damage, prevents breakage, and provides deep nourishment.

3. What you eat matters

What you eat and drink is vital to the health of your hair, so incorporating foods that are high in vitamins B, A, and C is recommended. This effectively means having a healthy diet that includes a variety of raw fruits and vegetables.

On warmer days, we also need to make sure we keep ourselves hydrated as dehydration can lead to dryness. If you struggle to drink 2 litres of water throughout the day, you can increase your hydration levels by adding foods rich in water to your diet such as cucumbers, oranges, strawberries, and grapefruits.

4. Choose the right comb

Be careful when combing, especially with wet hair. Try not to brush it through when it’s wet, instead use detangle products. It’s all in the comb, try using a wide-toothed comb to avoid breakage and damage to your hair. Always start from the ends, and work your way up while holding the section that you are working on.

5. Commit to regular trims

To keep your hair healthy and prevent the ends from splitting, you should visit your hairdresser regularly. Split ends happen when the ends of your hair become dry and brittle and your hairdresser can simply ‘dust’ the ends, which will help to strengthen the hair,
resulting in a healthy-looking hair.

  1. I have recently had my hair cut shorter to a shorter defined bob as I was just so sick of having to tie my hair back all the time and it was so hard to style because it had a wave that went its own way and was fluffy and dry.
On first glance it looked like a Pantene brand as similar looking bottle but I must say it wasn’t like Pantene or any other brand that I could compare it to. So I`d have to honestly say this stands on it`s own as if I could describe it in my words it would be that it is like what you`d expect to buy from a hairdressing salon but a product that takes away the need for any extra nourishing treatments I usually buy as well.
My hair really liked how the Shampoo lathered, smelt and how it didn`t seem to strip my hair before conditioning. They both had great consistency and I only needed a little pump of each. I do not claim this product has cured my hair completely as I don`t think any product works miracles but over the few weeks, it has certainly made my hair lighter, smoother, easy to style, and not weighed down or fluffy. This is such a money-saving way to go as Dove always seems to know what we are asking for in hair and body care. It’s kind to my scalp and my waviness is now under control and I can finally wear my hair down without worrying I`m going to look like a fluff ball at the end of the day lol!
I will be buying this fantastic duo again due to it working better than I imagined it would and if I must say, better than most of the more expensive brands that lay claims to their products. I am not at all disappointed but feel lucky to have found a great haircare product that has me out of the bathroom quicker and a feeling like I’ve had a treatment.

  2. Thank you so much to Dove and Beauty and Lace for allowing me to try Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner.
Upon opening up the Shampoo and Conditioner I was greeted with a beautiful scent which made me even more excited to try it.
I absolutely love it as does my daughter. I have split ends and usually my hair frizzes up after washing but this wasn’t the case with the Dove.
It brought out my natural curls without any frizz and made my hair soft and shiny.
My daughter has quite thin hair that gets quite oily but since using the dove her hair is beautiful and shiny without the oiliness.
I highly recommend using this product.

  3. The Dove Shampoo lathered well even though I didn’t need to use huge amounts. The Dove Conditioner made my hair feel soft and manageable. The products don’t feel heavy at all, and the lovely scent lingered in my hair for a while afterwards, which continued to smell amazing. There was also a lot less frizz than I normally get from other supermarket brands. Overall, I was very impressed with these products.

Thank you very much Beauty and Lace and Dove for the opportunity to review these products. I would be happy to purchase and highly recommend them to others.

  4. I have noticed since using this shampoo and conditioner that I don’t need to use extra products to manage my hair. I wash my hair usually every 2-3 days normally (depending on the feel and “dirtiness ” of my hair. Since using Dove Intensive Shampoo and conditioner, I have needed to wash my hair less often and used less product than I normally would.
The smell, feel and lather have all been great and has left my hair feeling silky, smooth and clean.
Thank you so much to Dove and Beauty and Lace for allowing me to try Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner.

  5. I usually only use products recommended in salon and avoid brands you can buy in the supermarket. But I’ve been using the Dove Intensive Repair shampoo and conditioner for months now and can say it’s great. My hair is shiny, silky, it doesn’t get knotted, and it has held my blonde hair colour
