Celebrity stylist Dario Cotroneo is the owner of Dario Salon in Darlinghurst, and he has put together a piece on How to Rock ‘Everyday-Easy’ Spring/Summer Hair Trends which we wanted to share with you:
Short Hair
A new season calls for a fresh new look! For on-trend short hair I love the ongoing lob trend, worn tousled and wavy for the warmer weather. If you’re going for a fringe, a dreamy fringe is the way to go! Going short is also a good opportunity to chop off any damaged hair and regain some of your hair’s natural health.
Styling
To style, start by apply a texturizing spray to damp hair. Then flat wrap (a drying technique where you dry one side of the head in one direction and then in the opposite direction) hair from side to side using a large paddle brush to achieve a smooth, volume boosting effect. Finally, curl random, thick strands of hair leaving hair in the hair iron for no longer than 10 seconds and release. Shake hair out to loosen curls for the desired wave. Finally, if you are sporting bangs, use a makeup brush to put any stray strands into place using hairspray.
Medium Length Hair
For medium length hair, try going for ‘The Chop’, which is hair that doesn’t fall too long or hang too short (it lands on top of the collar-bone). This cut is perfect if you want a change from long hair but aren’t ready to commit to a shorter bob. Emma Stone is rocking this look right now.
Styling
To style, take advantage of the heat and let it work in your favor, letting hair dry naturally after applying a frizz ease serum and spraying a sea salt spray through the mid-lengths to ends. Move hair around as it continues to dry – or as you blow-dry if you really can’t wait – and control the look with a flexible-hold hairspray.
Long Hair
If you’re growing your hair, the warmer months are the perfect time to embrace longer locks, which never go out of style! For long-haired beauties, this summer is all about soft s-waves and soft layers-think Giselle Bundchen and Blake Lively. For dark hair, opt for balayage or highlights that look natural and dominate away from the face – this will make hair look more full bodied and textured.
Styling
For soft, fuss-free Blake Lively waves, start with dry hair or let damp hair dry naturally. Go for a side part and sweep the hair to one side. Apply a heat protecting spray. Go for long wavy curls with a curling iron – this is where MYCURL comes in handy! Grab 1-2 inch sections of the hair to curl, then secure with a hairpin to set. Repeat and once the whole head is done, release the pins to let the curls out. Brush out with a paddle brush for a more natural look and finish off with some hairspray.
