How To: Candice’s Modern Model Blow Dry (Plus – WIN)

Gorge Northwood is one of London’s most coveted hairstylists, having mastered the art of the fuss-free blow-dry. His enviable client list includes Alexa Chung, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Gwyneth Paltrow.

“I’m all about women being able to emulate salon looks at home. I think it’s about hair that’s easy, beautiful and natural, not too overdone. Most importantly, it’s about simple hair!”

Rather than go for that dead straight look, Northwood prefers his girls to look carefree but polished.

“I am over that poker-straight blow dry that was big in the 90’s. I just want hair to be smoothed out nicely and look natural.”

When Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel debuted her new platinum hair, she kept the look modern by sporting a care-free blow dry. Here are Northwood’s steps for creating this thoroughly modern model worthy look at home using the new VS Sassoon Go Travel Dryer.

How to:

  1. Wash hair and treat it with a spray in conditioner. If your hair is delicate or colour treated like Candice, opt for a leave-in detangling spray to prevent breakage.
  2. For lift at the root add a small egg-sized amount of volumizing mouse focusing on the crown and then work through hair using a wide toothed comb.
  3. Using your blow dryer on the highest heat setting, rough dry until 90% of the moisture is removed, remembering to lift hair with your fingers at the root as you dry and parting hair down the middle and drying flat onto face as you go.
For an international jet-setting model like Candice, there’s no better dryer than the new VS Sassoon Go Travel Dryer, which is the first travel dryer on the market with 2000 watts of power so you get all the benefits of an at home dryer with the compact versatility of a travel dryer. It features a concentrator nozzle for sleek frizz-free results and the dual voltage means never having to use those useless hotel hair dryers again.
  4. Start by pinning the upper layers of hair and focus on the bottom sections. Blow dry wrapping sections of hair over a natural bristle brush keeping taught at the root (hair sections should be a similar width as the brush).
  5. Holding the nozzle right on the brush, pull down through the length of the hair until smooth. For height, blast dryer under the hair at the root and pay special attention to the ends curling the brush slightly under for a smooth polished look. Repeat for entire hair.
  6. When hair is completely dry loosely blast with air using your hands to arrange hair where you want. Add a drop of hair oil for extra shine.

  1. It would mean being able to have stylish, beautiful hair while on the go travelling with the convenient travel sized hairdryer that is easily portable!

  2. I have poodle hair and love traveling to Asian countries. The problem is humidity and not packing a dryer as its too heavy leaves my holiday photos looking like a bad comedy act. A travel dryer would make my memories worth remembering

  3. I can’t live without my hair dryer and cheap hotel dryers just don’t cut it, but after lugging it between 3 continents, I REALLY need this VS Sassoon godsend!!!!!

  4. I need a professional, good quality dryer, because my long, fine hair just seems to be getting thinner. I need to work through volumising products, and scrunch while blowdrying, so a well-performing model such as this would be ideal.

  5. Tired of looking like Hairy Maclary,
Would rather tamed tresses like the Tinkerbell Fairy!
On the road with VS Sassoon…
Ensures my locks are va va voom!

  6. I would LOVE to try this simple but gorgeous look that Candice is sporting. It’s so sophisticated but laid-back, polished but not stiff, and beautifully natural. I’m sure it’s flattering on all face types as well! Since I don’t actually own a hair-dryer, a VS Sassoon would be a huge step-up from my mundane hair-routine of sweeping it up into a messy bun. The fact that it’s so compact and portable makes the travel dryer just perfect <3 it'd be amazing to try this out myself and acccess my inner VS Angel! Thanks so much for the chance to win! xx

  7. To get Channing Tatum’s attention when I travel to the states! My normal traveling birds nest would also get his attention also but not the same attention I’m after! 😉

  8. I’m going on a overseas trip in 2 months and I only have this heavy hair dryer, which is also accident prone because it’s so heavy. I would love to take a travel hair dryer that is light and I’ll definitely have space for it in my suit case.

  9. On holiday my unruly locks
Look like I’ve had several shocks
    VS Sassoon, I beg a boon…
Give me hair that really rocks!

  10. Going cruise with 7 ladies in a suite together, this would be fantastic to win as we all want to look our best and compact size means more room for shoes.

  11. Lucky to win one of these hairdryer, which I received yesterday. And what a stylish compact power packed dryer it is! Thank You ever so much!
