REVIEW: Brazilian Straight (Priceline)

It has taken me a while to write my review for the Brazilian Straight Keratin Plus Straightening System (RRP $59.99), and that is because I am in two minds about it. Before I give you my verdict, let me tell you a little bit about my hair. I have naturally very curly, frizz prone hair and I am a brunette but my hair is dyed blonde. I regularly straighten my hair with a straightener but keep it in good shape by using treatments and quality salon products.

I was excited, and a little cautious, to try the Brazilian Straight Keratin Plus Straightening System and was given the opportunity to review the products which contain no formaldehyde. It’s an unusual process, and when I read the instructions I was sure it couldn’t possibly work. You wash hair twice with the included shampoo, it’s sulfur free so your hair does end up feeling squeaky clean – this helps to remove any products currently on your hair.

The treatment is then applied wearing gloves, you use your hands to cover each strand completely. There is a chemical smell which reminds me of perming solution, I wasn’t really expecting this but it wasn’t any stronger than regular hair dye fumes. Once your hair is covered in product you leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes depending on your hair type, I left mine for 10 minutes. Now, here is the part which I thought wouldn’t work. You wash off the treatment and use the shampoo and conditioner. Your hair needs to be rinsed thoroughly. Follow with a blowdry and carefully straighten the hair with a straightening iron. It is very important to take care with this step as it is actually crucial to the end result.

That’s it, then it’s done. You can wash your hair and don’t have to wait any length of time. For me, the end result was significantly straighter hair which is a big plus for this product – it works. The problem for me is that my hair feels very dry, and this could be due to the fact that it is already colour treated, but some keratin treatments are designed to make your hair feel better and not worse. I also found the aftercare products very drying – I know they are designed to extend the life of the treatment but for me, it took two washes before I was back to my regular faithfuls.

Would I do it again? I would consider it because it takes me about five minutes to straighten my hair which would normally take thirty, but I would continue to use intensive treatments. I would love to try this on unprocessed hair to compare. Definitely do a patch test if you are worried.

  1. So you liked the product and the process did work but the follow up shampoo and conditioner made your hair feel dry? Maybe there is some kind of intensive treatment in the range? I will ask when I am in there tomorrow (one of my other jobs is Merchandising LOL)

I love my local Priceline girls…..they told me how to strip too dark colour from my hair without having an expensive hairdresser visit.

    1. Hi Sue Ellen,
      To clarify…
The product straightened my hair significantly but it did dry it out in itself, the aftercare products made it even worse. My hair is OK using my regular products but not as good as it was before the treatment. So I sacrificed the condition of my hair for the sake of straighter hair. (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – and if my hair wasn’t colour treated in the first place I don’t think it would have been as much of an issue). Hope this makes sense xx

  2. Thanks for the review. My hair is totally untreated so it may not dry out as much. I don’t have a decent straightener so if, and when I get one, it may be something I’d consider.

  3. Wow reading the first couple of lines for this article, it was like I was writing about myself. I too have really curly frizzy hair that is naturally brunette but dyed blonde he he. I think I might just continue to straighten my hair with a straightener, as the condition of my hair isnt too bad at the moment with the treatments and conditioners that I use.

  4. i tried the brazilian straight and the first 4 days it was nice n straight but as soon as i washed it it went back to my curly frizzy hair. was really diappointed!

  5. DO NOT USE IT!! I used it for the first time this evening and have just had to go for an emergency hair cut! It damaged my hair so badly that my hair was breaking off in chunks as I was running my fingers through it. My hairdresser couldn’t even run the comb through my hair as the breakage was too bad and she was worried it would mean cutting my long (below my shoulders) hair to being above my ears in a pixie cut to actually get rid off all the damage. I have been told I cannot use any products (hair spray etc.),blow dry my hair, or tie my hair back for at least 4 weeks. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Even though my hair is coloured, I have always been very careful with it and it has always been in good condition, Not any more. It is going to take me month s to get it back into any kind of decent condition.

  6. I used it this afternoon for the first time and I was really nervous after reading these reviews. However, so far my hair is beautifully soft, shiny and straight. Its much straighter than I would.normally get with my ghd. My hair looks pretty close to the picture on the packaging in fact. The true test will be how my hair looks after it is washed. My hair is quite thick, curly and prone to frizz. It has also been coloured, although not regularly, so may not be as dried out as other people’s.

  7. Do not use it. It strips all moisture out of your hair and leaves it like straw. It is the worst keratin treatment I’ve ever used. Should be taken off the market. Absolutely terrible.

  8. This product is a complete waste of money. By the next day my daughters hair was already starting to recurl and after washing it for the first time is like she never straightened it in the first place. Interesting fact is I can’t seem to find any details other than manufacturer’s address on the packaging to give them feedback/make a complaint and a google search gives no further details. They are beginning to offer deals on Scoopon for this product – no wonder, it’s a load of rubbish.

  9. I used it a week ago and have just washed my hair and it seems to have gone back to curly I can’t tell if I need to blow dry it to have it go back straight or if I can leave it to dry natural? Will be disappointed if it doesn’t work for the full month. I thought it was great for that first week. I have really curly frizzy hair and straightening usually takes me up to an hour to straighten. I didn’t find it to be all drying and my hair felt as good as it does after I go to hair dressers. I do also have chemically treated hair though I only foils and not that often.

  10. I have ruined hair from bleaching it back to go costume red. Since, I have dyed over the red with brown, so my hair is now red/brown/blonde. I used this product at night and thought it was okay then woke up the next day with it perfectly straight! I love it! My hair is normally frizzy and dry. I’ve had so much cut off and the bleach has killed it. Everyone now complements me and thinks I’ve colored it? Lol….i guess it just depends on the individual?

  11. I just tried today on my totally uncoloured hair and it was amazing. I was totally nervous to try after reading the earlier reviews, but I’m so glad I did, Feels silky smooth. And looks like the girl on the box. Now just to see how it lasts. Does anyone know why Priceline no longer stocks or us that just my local?

  12. well i tried this product and had my hopes up and got sadly disapointed did not work i have thick curly hair as soon as i wet it curly again was like i didnt even use the product it also left my hair dry stripped all moisture out and was like straw very frizzy flyaways etc then as soon as i started using normal shampoo n conditioner hair was great curly but condition improved greatly never again will i use
    🙁

  13. Hi I have a horror story to tell about BS….don’t touch the stuff if you have colored or permed hair….used it & all the top & sides of my hair broke off……be warned……cheers loretta

  14. This product did nothing for my hair, yes it was straight after blow drying and using a straightener but I do this any way. My hair is curly after the next wash and remains this way naturally. What a waste of time and money. I am going back to straightening using home perm but doing the opposite by combing straight. The results are great and lasts for months.
